There is something about this picture that has always captivated me. It's almost as if Roy Lichtenstein is talking to you through the dots, asking for pity. Why? Goodness knows because he has got to be one of the finest modern artists the 20th century produced. As a student I had the opportunity to buy a litho print on canvas of this in Germany. Sadly, that day, my head ruled my heart and I've regretted it ever since...
Roy Lichtenstein created many works of art over the course of his life. Classed as an 'American Pop Artist', similar to Andy Warhol, he favoured a modern approach to pointillism in his work.
He died on September 29 1997.
